An orangery is a brick structure with a flat, solid perimeter roof and a central glazed lantern, feeling more like a permanent room, while a conservatory is a more glass-heavy structure with a fully glazed, often pitched roof, maximizing light for a sunroom feel, though modern designs blur these lines. In contrast, cheaper and poorly installed conservatories may fail much sooner. Key factors affecting its lifespan include the quality of installation, choice of materials such as uPVC or glass and tile, as well as regular maintenance like cleaning and repairs, and the conservatory's location.
